We have the opportunity to lower energy costs for consumers and repeal Ohio’s coal plant bailout, but we need you to act fast. Governor DeWine is considering the final version of House Bill 15, a critical bill that would help fix Ohio’s energy system by ending costly coal bailouts and improving grid reliability. Tell Governor DeWine to sign this bill for lower electric bills and repeal of big corporate bailouts!
The final version of this bill will not be perfect, but it can offer practical solutions to some of our state’s most significant energy challenges:
- Cost Savings: Immediate repeal of the OVEC coal bailout (Legacy Generation Resource Rider) that subsidized outdated, polluting coal facilities, charging $90 million per year on Ohioans’ energy bills
- Improved Reliability: Promotes investment in Advanced Transmission Technologies (ATTs) to achieve higher capacity out of the existing transmission grid
- Increased Utility Accountability: Improves transparency and establishes stronger reliability standards requiring utilities to heat map and track outages at the local level, giving communities clear data on the impact of investments
- School Efficiency Support: Supports schools by offering low-interest loans for solar energy and efficiency upgrades
- Promote Fairness: Transitions Ohio away from Electric Security Plans (ESPs), which utilities use to charge customers excessive riders and fees, and strengthens the transparency of the traditional rate case process
Ohioans are already seeing rising electric bills due to high demand and delays in adding clean energy to the grid. HB 15 offers real solutions to repeal the coal plant bailouts, add demand response programs, and make Ohio’s energy system fair and affordable.
We urge Governor DeWine to sign House Bill 15!
