Today, a dangerous provision is moving through the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee, threatening the foundation of nonprofits in Ohio and nationwide.
This provision would grant the Executive Branch unchecked authority over nonprofits. It allows the President to strip any nonprofit of its 501(c)(3) status by labeling it a “terrorist organization” without due process, without evidence, and without accountability.
We need you to call upon Ohio’s senators and lawmakers to halt this direct attack on nonprofit organizations that dare to speak out. This sort of action should have no place in our democracy.
Fortunately, Rep. Mike Carey sits on the Ways & Means Committee. We need to decisively and urgently make our voice heard to stop this provision in its tracks.
The Ohio nonprofit sector isn’t just about advocacy, it’s about serving people, building communities, and promoting safety. So, what’s at stake?
- Environmental nonprofits, like the Ohio Environmental Council and our partners, fight for clean water, air, and land protections
- Ohio food pantries serve 3.6-3.8 million visitors every quarter
- Nonprofit health services across Ohio serve over 1.6 million low-income Ohioans each year, providing critical care at affordable prices
- Farmers groups back 74,000 Ohio farms on 13.5 million acres, offering aid, cost-share support, and unified advocacy for strong rural economies and sustainable agriculture
Speak up like millions of Ohioans depend on it.
