OEC Action Fund Launches Accountability Campaign on Senator Husted, Congressman Carey’s GOP Budget Votes
Columbus, OH — Today, the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund launched an accountability campaign aimed at Rep. Mike Carey (OH-15) and U.S. Senator Jon Husted. Their votes in favor of the GOP Budget Bill, a sweeping budget measure, slashes clean energy investments and will raise energy costs for Ohio families and businesses.
The GOP Budget Bill will:
- Increase annual energy bills for Ohio households by over $910 million by 2030, rising to $2.1 billion by 2035
- Jeopardize more than $21 billion in clean energy investments across 154 Ohio facilities
- Eliminate tax credits that made solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, and home upgrades more affordable
This bill wasn’t just a billionaire tax cut; it’s a pass for polluters to poison our waters and air while the working middle class bears the burden. The OEC Action Fund’s campaign will include digital ads, grassroots mobilization, and earned media efforts across Central Ohio and key regions impacted by rising utility bills and stalled clean energy projects. This will push to the 2026 midterms, ensuring Ohioans know who raised their energy bills.
The following quote can be attributed, in whole or in part, to Spencer Dirrig, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund:
“Ohio families pay the price while polluting billionaires get a handout – that’s the deal Rep. Mike Carey and Sen. Jon Husted just cut. Their budget vote secured higher bills, fewer jobs, and dirtier air. We won’t let Ohioans forget who stuck them with the tab. They made their decision, and now we must hold them accountable.”
