OEC Action Fund Statement on Federal Reconciliation Bill
Columbus, OH — The U.S. House of Representatives passed the most anti-environment bill in our nation’s history. We condemn Ohio’s Representatives who voted in favor of this reconciliation bill. As the bill stands, it will increase costs, lead to job losses, and increase exposure to pollution for Ohio’s children and communities. We are deeply disappointed in our representatives, who have failed to fix these devastating cuts despite stating their support for these popular clean energy investments, which would bring billions of dollars to Ohio’s economy. Ohioans are deeply worried about our economy and rising costs, and our country cannot afford to carelessly halt clean energy progress. As the reconciliation package moves to the Senate, we urge Senators Husted and Moreno to protect these clean energy investments for the health and benefit of all Ohioans.
The following quote can be attributed, in whole or in part, to Nolan Rutschilling, Managing Director of Energy Policy for the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund:
“The reconciliation package passed by the House of Representatives, and by most Ohio representatives, is short-sighted and irresponsible. As the most damaging environmental bill in our nation’s history, this legislation will lead to higher gas and electricity prices for struggling families and businesses, undermine the U.S. manufacturing comeback, and heighten pollution risks for our children and communities. We are extremely disappointed with the House Republicans who did not amend these provisions, despite their claims of support for these well-received clean energy investments in Ohio. This legislation will harm Ohio’s job market, economic development, and energy independence. This is a major step backward for Ohioans, and we call upon Senators Jon Husted and Bernie Moreno to oppose these reckless cuts. We need to ensure investments in affordable, clean energy continue in our state before Ohioans pay the price.”
