OEC Action Fund Statement on Governor DeWine’s Executive Budget
Columbus, OH — Yesterday, Governor DeWine delivered his final biennial state operating budget recommendations for fiscal years 2026 and 2027. In his press conference regarding the bill, he outlined his investment priorities for the next two years, including plans to continue funding Ohio’s signature water quality program, H2Ohio, childcare tax credits, and mental health initiatives. According to the Governor, H2Ohio will enhance wetlands, repair water infrastructure for clean drinking water, and assist farmers in adopting best management practices.
The following quote can be attributed, in whole or in part, to Pete Bucher, Chief of Staff for the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund:
“Governor DeWine continues to be a leader on Ohio’s water quality issues by championing a continued investment in the state’s H2Ohio program. We look forward to working with the administration and the Ohio General Assembly to strengthen the program with accountability measures to ensure these public dollars achieve their intended water quality improvements. We also look forward to working toward a long-term funding mechanism for the H2Ohio program. As communities across Ohio continue to deal with toxic algae threats, lead water lines, and aging water infrastructure, the timing couldn’t be better to make this program a permanent fixture.”
