OEC Action Fund Statement on the Big “Beautiful” Bill
Columbus, OH — The U.S. Senate just passed the latest version of the Reconciliation Bill, which significantly reduces the clean energy investments established by the Inflation Reduction Act. This bill will increase energy costs, lead to job losses, and increase exposure to pollution for Ohio’s children and communities.
The following quote can be attributed, in whole or in part, to Spencer Dirrig, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund:
“The Senate reconciliation package passed today is nothing short of betrayal. Ohioans wanted relief from rising prices. Instead, this bill will increase energy costs, decrease electric reliability, and raise the national debt, all while putting thousands of good-paying Ohio clean energy and manufacturing jobs at risk.
“This bill rewards wealthy corporations while asking working families to bear the burden of higher utility prices and less reliable energy. That’s unacceptable.
“We urge Ohio’s congressional delegation to vote NO on this so-called Big “Beautiful” Bill. A vote for this bill is a vote to raise energy bills on Ohio families while increasing the potential for blackouts. We need real solutions, not reckless giveaways that leave our communities in the dark.”
