In July, Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder was arrested in a $60 million bribery scheme. This is being called the biggest public corruption scandal in Ohio history. According to the federal complaint against the Speaker, FirstEnergy Corp. funneled bribes to Larry Householder to ensure the passage of House Bill 6 (HB 6).
HB 6 was the kind of bill you only loved if you were paying for it. Turns out they apparently did. This disaster of a bill bailed out two nuclear power plants and two coal power plants all while gutting Ohio’s renewable energy and energy efficiency standards. This bill was called the “worst energy bill of the 21st century.”
TELL OUR LEADERS: REPEAL HB6 NOW
This shouldn’t be how we do business in Ohio. Bribes should get bad actors handcuffs not handouts. The Ohio Statehouse and Governor DeWine must repeal this fraudulent bill immediately.
FirstEnergy allegedly spent over $60 million dollars on bribes, false advertising, and intimidation tactics to get a bill approved by lawmakers and the Governor, amounting to a $1.5 billion bailout paid for by Ohioans like you and me. Lawmakers who pushed for this bad bill apparently think it’s acceptable to take money from hardworking families every single month.
We have to stand up against corrupt politicians and corporations.
Today, Governor DeWine said that HB 6 should be repealed. Contact Governor DeWine and your legislators now and tell them to follow through and repeal HB 6 immediately.
Ohioans deserve better. It’s time to restore trust in the legislative process, embrace our renewable energy future, good paying careers, and cleaner air for all Ohioans. We can repeal HB 6 and then begin to work on new legislation that embraces the renewable energy transition happening every day across Ohio. It’s time for our leaders to take responsibility for the corrupt HB 6 by repealing it now.
