There is no safe level of lead and Ohio currently ranks third in the nation for the most lead pipes carrying drinking water to families. No one should worry about the safety of their drinking water.
We need bold action to protect Ohioans from this threat. House Bill 534 is a bold step to get the lead out of our drinking water. This legislation requires all public water systems to fully replace lead service lines within 15 years. It does so while ensuring water affordability and supporting workforce development. The Lead Service Line Replacement Act is common-sense legislation to protect public health, create jobs, and ensure a healthy and safe future for Ohio families.
By requiring public water systems to get the lead out within 15 years with no exceptions or extended timelines, this bill will protect Ohio’s most vulnerable — children, pregnant women, and marginalized communities — who disproportionately suffer from lead exposure.
