Today, lawmakers introduced new bipartisan federal legislation to reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) for five more fiscal years, from 2027 through 2031. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act of 2024 will invest up to $500 million annually to restore and protect the Great Lakes — as well as the streams, rivers and wetlands that feed them — by restoring habitat, cleaning up toxic pollution, reducing urban and farm runoff, and managing invasive species.

The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund today released the Ohio delegation’s scores for the League of Conservation Voters’ 2022 National Environmental Scorecard highlighting how some members chose to champion the environment and protect our democracy, while others failed to do so. Today, Governor Mike DeWine signed both House Bill 458 and House Bill 507 into law. The OEC Action Fund condemns the passage of these two bills pushed through in the waning hours of the 134th General Assembly. House Bill 458 was originally focused on August special elections, but it was amended into a sweeping anti-voter bill that massively changes how elections are administered and how Ohioans can access their most fundamental American right. House Bill 507, originally intended to govern the sale of poultry, removes critical public oversight and locks-in polluters’ control over what public lands in Ohio are leased and when.
