COLUMBUS, OH — This year, the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund endorsed the largest and most comprehensive slate of candidates in the organization’s history. Despite political headwinds, a majority of the OEC Action Fund’s endorsed candidates and issues were victorious on Election Day.
“We are thrilled to congratulate our elected candidates across Ohio on their exciting victories. Climate Champions ran, and won, at every level of the ballot by talking to voters about the need for clean energy jobs and environmental justice in our communities. These candidate-elects will work to ensure Ohio communities have clean air, clean water, and access to vibrant parks for years to come—as well as a healthy democracy, given the impacts of gerrymandering on the outcome of this election,” Spencer Dirrig, OEC Action Fund Director, said. “The election of a majority of the OEC Action Fund’s candidates this year—including many competitive races—has demonstrated the growing power of the environmental movement in Ohio.”
Additionally, voters overwhelmingly passed OEC Action Fund’s endorsed park levies in Lucas and Cuyahoga Counties. “Access to nearby nature is critical to the health and wellbeing of our communities. We thank voters in Cuyahoga and Lucas counties for their continued support for public parks and green spaces,” Dirrig said. Since its foundation, the OEC Action Fund has supported the acquisition of over $1 billion in public lands funding through its park levy support.
The OEC Action Fund supported endorsed candidates through direct mail, digital ads, radio spots, door-to-door canvassing, and volunteer phone banks.
