OEC Action Fund Statement on House Passage of Build Back Better Act

Washington, DC — In response to the passage of the Build Back Better Act in the U.S. House today, the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund provided the following statement.

The following quote can be attributed in full or in part to Heather Taylor-Miesle, President of the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund:

“After a long debate, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the strongest climate bill in United States history. Thank you Reps. Beatty (OH-3), Brown (OH-11), Kaptur (OH-9), and Ryan (OH-13) for your tireless leadership and for supporting this transformative legislation. We commend you for listening to environmental advocates, labor unions, and especially those frontline communities who demanded action.

“This bill meets the moment that science and justice demand by putting the U.S. on the path to cutting our climate pollution in half by 2030 and investing directly in communities of color too often left behind. Paired with the bipartisan infrastructure bill, this legislation will sustain and create millions of good-paying union jobs, while supporting a healthier environment. We call on the U.S. Senate to swiftly pass the Build Back Better Act and send it to President Biden’s desk. This once-in-a-generation opportunity for climate action, job creation, and environmental justice will improve Ohioans’ lives and our communities.”
