The Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund (OEC Action Fund), announced today their endorsement of Pete Gerken for Lucas County Commissioner. Gerken is an outspoken champion for the working class who has worked just as passionately to protect our great Lake Erie from the plague of toxic algae.
“Pete Gerken recognizes that a strong economy requires a healthy environment,” said OEC Action Fund President Heather Taylor-Miesle. “That’s why he’s worked hard to protect Lake Erie, and support efforts to grow our clean energy sector.”
The endorsement is the fifth of this cycle for the OEC Action Fund. OECAF has also endorsed Denise Driehaus for Hamilton County Commissioner, Sen. Randy Gardner in the Senate, Rep. Dan Ramos and Casey Weinstein for the Ohio House. These endorsements represent a significant foray into electoral politics for Ohio’s environmental community aimed at building the political power of the environmental movement through strategic issue and electoral campaigns.
“I’m honored to have this endorsement,” said Gerken. “Environmental issues are a top priority to me and my board. I am glad to be honored and yet I know we still have more work to do. As Commissioner, water quality, alternative energy and green infrastructure are always on my mind and a policy priority in Lucas County.”
